What is Our Destiny?

What is Our Destiny?

Have you ever asked these questions? Most people have.

Who am I?

Why am I here?

What is wrong with the world?

How can what is wrong be made right?

So, why did God create us? Does He have a purpose for us? Let’s take a look at what some Bible teachers are saying.

Westminster Shorter Catechism

Q. 1. What is the chief end of man?
A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.

John Piper

“We were created for His glory – to magnify it, display it, and make it look great. Not to increase His glory, but to display it, to manifest it in our daily lives.”

Isaiah 43:7 – Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.

“NOT because He needs us – He existed in eternity past, without the need of creating the world or mankind. God was full and happy within the Trinity.”

1 Corinthians 10:31 – Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

“We exist to see and savour and show the beauty and worth and greatness of God in every sphere of our lives… our magnifying God’s glory by finding Him to be the most satisfying reality in the universe.”

Oswald Chambers

“We must continually remind ourselves of the purpose of life. We are not destined to happiness, nor to health, but to holiness… The only thing that matters is whether a person will accept the God who will make him holy. At all costs, a person must have the right relationship with God.”

God did not send His Son to die for us because He felt sorry for us, or to save us from all the scrapes and holes we get ourselves into. Christ did not die to make us feel better about ourselves, or to give us some sense of false security through our own faulty ideas of goodness. No; He died to make us holy, justified and purified in God’s eyes, washed in the blood of Christ.

Chambers goes on to say…

“Do I believe I need to be holy? Do I believe that God can come into me and make me holy?”

“Holiness means unsullied walking with the feet, unsullied talking with the tongue, and unsullied thinking with the mind – every detail of the life under the scrutiny of God. Holiness is not only what God gives me, but what I exhibit in my life that God has given me.”

You will do everything you can to avoid and escape that very thing, unless you have placed your faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. There is absolutely no way you can make yourself holy. You can’t even make yourself want to be holy for reasons that are pure, and for His glory only. That is something only God can do.

Voddie Baucham

In this powerful video, Voddie Baucham takes the four questions I began this post with, and answers them – first from the world’s standpoint, and then from what God says in the Scriptures.

WHO Am I?

WHY Am I Here?

WHAT is Wrong with the World?

HOW can What is Wrong be Made Right?

1 Peter 1:15-16As He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
